Soča Valley
A river you'll never forget – emerald, wild and surrounded by the Julian Alps.
The road over the Vršič pass, with its 50 hairpin bends, takes you into the Soča Valley, home to one of Europe's most beautiful rivers. Gorges, waterfalls, the river's source and stories from the First World War, when the Soča Front ran through here – a day full of beauty and history.

How the day works
An early start through Kranjska Gora and over the Vršič Pass, stops at the best viewpoints, a riverside walk, lunch in Kobarid and a return through Idrija or Nova Gorica.
For the adventurous
On request I add rafting, kayaking or ziplining near Bovec and arrange the bookings in advance.
For history lovers
The Isonzo Front is one of Europe's most moving stories; I guide you through the museum and along the preserved trails.

Explore with me
- Pick-up from your accommodation, a safe drive over the Vršič hairpins, stops at hidden riverside spots, stories from the Soča Front, a trout lunch, and photographs to remember your day.
Explore independently
You'll need a car; the Vršič pass is closed in winter. In summer a bus also serves the valley, but infrequently. Don't swim where warning signs are posted – the current is strong.
Best time to visit
June–September, when the Vršič pass is open and the river is at its most turquoise.
