The best places to visit in Slovenia – a local's picks
By Klara, founder of Amazing Slovenia, local guide & photographer · · ~7 min read

There are plenty of "top places in Slovenia" lists online, most written by visitors who spent a week here. Here is my selection – with honest notes on when and how to experience each place at its best.
Lake Bled
Yes, it's touristy – for a reason. An island with a church, a castle on a cliff and the famous cream cake. My tip: come at sunrise or in autumn, when mist rises over the lake.
Lake Bohinj and Triglav National Park
Slovenia's largest permanent lake, surrounded by mountains. Many trails into the Julian Alps start here, including towards Triglav – our highest peak and the symbol on our flag.
The Soča Valley
A river whose colour is hard to believe until you see it. Gorges, waterfalls, First World War history in Kobarid and plenty of adventure activities.
Piran
The most beautiful town on our short coastline. Narrow streets, Tartini Square and the view from the town walls. Fresh fish by the sea in the evening.
Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle
You ride into the cave on a little train, and the castle in the cliff hides the legend of knight Erazem. A perfect day even when it rains.
Logarska Valley
A glacial valley many foreigners miss. Rinka waterfall, silence and one of the most scenic roads in the country (the Solčava Panoramic Road).
Bela krajina
My home corner of Slovenia. Birch groves, vineyards, the Kolpa river for swimming and canoeing, and local red wine. Almost no tourists.
You won't see everything in one trip – and that's fine. Tell me what you love, and we'll pick the right places together.
